NET Nurse Kate completes Melbourne half marathon

Earlier in October, I was thrilled to be able to run my first half-marathon, to help raise funds for the Unicorn Foundation.

I have only been running for about 18 months, so this was a big goal for me, and I was very grateful to my partner-in-crime, Kathryn Edbooke, who not only trained with me, but stuck with me throughout the course on the big day!

The day was just perfect – clear skies, not too hot and no wind. Spurred on by the many messages of support from family and friends, as well as so many of my beautiful patients, we had a fabulous run (most of the time with big smiles on our faces)! The atmosphere was incredibly festive, and running into the MCG at the end of the race was a huge thrill (cue “Chariots of Fire” theme music)! I was very happy to run the distance in under 2.5 hours.

Running has become a very special and important thing to me, helping clear my mind and manage the various balls I have in the air. In the forefront of my mind is always a sense of gratitude at being able to be healthy and active, something that is so elusive and outside the control of so many in our Unicorn Foundation community. I was so pleased to have this opportunity to raise funds to help find a cure to neuroendocrine tumours.

It’s not to late to donate – all money raised will go directly into the Unicorn Foundation’s research fund – to do so, go to
