To raise awareness this year on World NET Cancer Day, November 10, the Unicorn Foundation along with INCA (International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance) embarked upon a social media campaign.
Patient’s were asked to submit a “selfie” holding a placard describing their cancer journey such as time to diagnosis, what they had been misdiagnosed with what their actual diagnosis was. This provided a powerful montage that was displayed on the World NET Cancer Day website (http://netcancerday.org/support-us/net-cancer-day-selfies).
The Unicorn Foundation with the support of their ambassadors raised awareness through twitter, instagram and facebook and achieved a combined audience of over 4 million twitter followers thanks to the incredible efforts of Michelle Monaghan, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Emily Osment, Missi Pyle and Paul Leyden.
Unfortunately Neuroendocrine Cancer is still misdiagnosed due to the lack of awareness in the medical community. With everyone’s help we can save lives by raising awareness and diagnosing earlier.
